About Plopstack

Plopstack is a free game in your browser. You drop one photo on top of another, and a third photo develops out of the two, like a polaroid coming up in a darkroom.

How to play

  1. Pick a world. There are sixteen of them, such as Flora, Oceans, Mountains and Weather. Each one starts with four photos.
  2. Drag one photo onto another. A seed on moss, a wave on a shell. The two become one new card that takes the shape of one and the material of the other.
  3. Keep crossing. Every new card can be crossed again. A card made from two crossings is a second generation, and the deeper you go the stranger it gets.
  4. Fill your album. Every card you find stays in your collection, sorted by world and by rarity.

World firsts

Every combination exists once, for everybody. The first player in the world to make it gets their name on it as the discoverer, and extra points. Anyone who makes the same combination later gets the same card, already developed.

Rarity

Cards come in four rarities: silver, gold, holo and mythic. The deeper a card sits in the family tree, the rarer it tends to be. Some combinations are signature recipes: hand-written cards with a joke of their own that you only find by trying the right pair.

Stuck?

When a pair makes nothing new a few times in a row, the game gives you a hint: two of your own cards that do make something you have not found yet. One hint an hour is free. If you want another one sooner you can choose to watch a short video for it. Nothing else in the game is ever interrupted by an ad.

Your own photos

You can also bring a photo of your own into the game. Cards made from your own photo are private: they stay in your album and are never shown to other players.

Playing on more than one device

You can play straight away without an account. Your collection is kept in this browser. Sign in with Google from the settings and it follows you to any phone or computer, without losing anything you already found.

Who makes this

Plopstack is an independent game made in Belgium. The images are made by an image model running on our own graphics card and, when it is busy, on a rented one. Every card is checked automatically before it reaches your album, and each one carries an invisible watermark so it can always be traced back to the game.
